Job Title: Receiving Associate
Reports To: Receiving Manager / Store Manager
Department: Receiving

Position Overview:

As a Receiving Associate, you will support the Receiving Manager in unloading trucks, processing deliveries, tagging products, and distributing merchandise to the appropriate departments. This role is physically demanding and requires attention to detail, efficiency, and teamwork. In addition to receiving duties, you will assist with general facility maintenance and cleaning tasks to ensure the store remains safe, organized, and customer-friendly.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Receiving & Unloading:

  • Assist in unloading incoming shipments of plants, hardgoods, and seasonal merchandise.
  • Check products against packing slips and purchase orders for accuracy.
  • Handle plants and materials carefully to prevent damage and ensure quality.
  • Stage products in designated receiving areas for processing.

Tagging & Distribution:

  • Tag and label products with correct pricing and department information.
  • Distribute merchandise efficiently to appropriate departments for stocking and display.
  • Assist department managers with product staging when needed.

Facility & Store Maintenance:

  • Perform general maintenance tasks around receiving and store areas, including sweeping, trash removal, and organization.
  • Support upkeep of outdoor and indoor areas as assigned.
  • Ensure receiving and storage areas are kept clean, safe, and organized.

Team Support & Communication:

  • Work closely with the Receiving Manager to prioritize and complete daily tasks.
  • Communicate with department managers about deliveries and product availability.
  • Assist fellow associates when extra support is required during peak times.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Follow all company safety procedures while handling equipment and merchandise.
  • Use tools and equipment properly, including pallet jacks, carts, and ladders.
  • Report safety hazards or damaged equipment to management promptly.

 

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous receiving, warehouse, or retail experience is a plus but not required.
  • Experience working with plants or in a garden center environment helpful.

Skills:

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment with frequent lifting and movement.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to follow directions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. regularly.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, and walking.
  • Work outdoors and indoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, pollen).

Work Environment:

  • Active, hands-on role in receiving and facility maintenance.
  • Mix of indoor receiving areas, storage spaces, and outdoor yard work.
  • Fast-paced environment with regular interaction with staff, vendors, and delivery drivers.
