The elegance and refined technique the bonsai tree displays is unmatched. In “The Art of Bonsai,” Brian will be demonstrating basic techniques for design, branch selection, pruning, and wiring. Additionally, he will be showcasing samples of established bonsai that started as basic nursery stock. Additional topics will include: proper soil/modern substrate, selecting a container, and suitable species. Seminar is FREE. Registration not required. Seating is limited.
About the speaker: Brian Hollowell has practiced bonsai extensively for the past ten years. He is a past member of the Virginia Bonsai Society where he served on the board. Currently, Brian is the President of the Tidewater Bonsai Club based out of Suffolk, Virginia. He has studied with professional bonsai artists from Italy, Austria, and the United States. Many of these professionals completed five to seven year apprenticeships in Japan and are certified masters by the Nippon Bonsai Association. Brian has participated in and earned awards at local, regional, and national bonsai exhibitions. This includes the top honor of Finest Native Species Award at the 2014 National Bonsai Exhibition in New York. Additionally, his works have been published in International Bonsai and Bonsai Focus magazines. Brian currently works as the Director of Operations for Moe's Southwest Grill. He lives with his wife and two young boys in Suffolk, Virginia.
