McDonald Garden Center was founded more than 65 years ago to provide the residents of Hampton Roads a wide selection of high-quality products and services to enhance and beautify homes and gardens throughout all seasons. Committed to providing exceptional customer service and horticultural expertise, this local icon encourages successful gardening habits and an enjoyable shopping experience.

McDonald Nurseries, Inc. is a multifaceted business with three year-round Garden Centers, 15 seasonal Garden Markets, a Production Facility, and a Landscape Design division. The original retail location was established in 1945 in Hampton, VA and in the fall of 1980, the Garden Center expanded into the Virginia Beach market. Service was extended to Chesapeake, in March of 1992. In spring 2009, McDonald unveiled the first Garden Market in Poquoson, Virginia. Now, Garden Markets have expanded to the Southside, Peninsula and Williamsburg with 15 seasonal locations. These Markets provide quality plants and garden accessories from March through mid-July.

Over the past 65 years, McDonald Garden Center has been honored with numerous national and local industry awards. Most recently in 2009, the Garden Center was bestowed one of the highest honors in the independent garden center industry, and chosen as the National Nursery Retailer of the Year. McDonald Garden Center was also recognized as one of the Revolutionary 100 Garden Centers in the country by Today’s Garden Center. Locally, McDonald Garden Center was voted by the residents of Hampton Roads, as the Best Garden Center and Landscaper for both the Southside and the Peninsula.
