One of our Finest Houseplants . . .
Bromeliads are a long lasting and colorful houseplant. At Christmas two years ago, I did an arrangement with a red Neoregelia. This Christmas I used it as part of an arrangement mixed with cut foliage. The plant still has great color and is one of the most enjoyable houseplants I have had.
Long lasting color is a signature of the Neoregelias. We currently have a vibrant pink and a stunning red. Over the course of the last two years I have had to remove a few of the lower green leaves, but the red leaves are still clean and fresh.
A member of the pineapple family, offshoots can be cut off and rooted and they will bloom. It takes about two years to reach maturity. Neoregelias absorb nutrients through the foliage at the base of the plant, so keep water in the plant’s center. Bromeliads do not do anything fast. They do not grow fast, nor do they die fast. They give beauty everyday. Bromeliads are part of a magical family of plants including tiny Tillandsias to giant Pineapples.
